Tempstar furnaces are known for being a solid mid-range option within the ICP family (same parent company as Carrier), offering reliable heat output, decent efficiency ratings up to the 90%+ AFUE range, and straightforward serviceability. They’re not built as premium systems, but the core components—heat exchangers, control boards, and burners—hold up well when installed and set up correctly. Where these systems tend to fail is in poor installation: bad airflow, improper gas pressure, or neglected maintenance will shorten their lifespan quickly. Shawn Whalen handles Tempstar furnace installs and repairs personally, dialing in proper sizing, duct connections, and combustion settings so the unit runs the way it’s designed to. He also diagnoses issues down to the component level—ignition systems, flame sensors, limit switches—so repairs are done right instead of guessed at.
